Employees Health InsuranceThe Employees Health Insurance card (right) is 'credit card' sized so it easy to carry with you. There have been cases in the past where an ALT didn't have their card at the time of payment. If this occurs you will have to pay the bill in full, but most hospitals and clinics will allow you to bring your card to them in the following days and they will refund you the 70% of the bill that is covered by the Employees Health Insurance.
Employees Health Insurance, of which all JETs are members, covers 70% of all medical costs. The 'JET Accident Insurance' policy, which is managed by Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co. Ltd, covers the remainder minus a 5,000 yen deductible. *Pregnancy and dental care are covered by the Employees Health Insurance but not by Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co. Ltd.
When you go for medical treatment, whether it be at a hospital or clinic, present your Health Insurance card at the time of payment and you will be required to pay only 30% of the bill. This amount, minus the 5,000 yen deductible, can then be claimed back by completing the application here, attaching your receipts and sending it off to Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co. Ltd.
Before submitting a claim it is imperative that a report is made to the Overseas Travel Insurance claims Service Section 2 of Tokio Marine and Nichido Fire Insurance. This report can be made by the JET participant or by a representative from the contracting organization.
