JET Accident Insurance
The Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co. Ltd JET Accident Insurance policy covers death and residual disability, medical expenses for accidental injury, death from sickness, medical expenses for sickness, personal liability insurance and rescue expenses. It does not cover willful acts, fights, crimes, suicide, wars, riots (excluding terrorist attacks), driving without a valid license (or under the influence of alcohol or other drugs), pregnancy, childbirth, premature birth or miscarriage, whiplash or back injury (without reasonable evidence) or dental treatment (unless required as a result of an accident).

The insurance policy also covers overseas travel for the first 30 days of travel outside of Japan (including your home country) while you are still a contracted JET. Once you decide not to renew your contract you will still be covered until the 31st of August (for July and August arrivals), or until you arrive back home, whichever comes first.
Employees Health Insurance
Employees Health Insurance, of which all JETs are members, covers 70% of all medical costs. The 'JET Accident Insurance' policy, which is managed by Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co. Ltd, covers the remainder minus a 5,000 yen deductible. *Pregnancy and dental care are covered by the Employees Health Insurance but not by Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co. Ltd.
When you go for medical treatment, whether it be at a hospital or clinic, present your Health Insurance card at the time of payment and you will be required to pay only 30% of the bill. This amount, minus the 5,000 yen deductible, can then be claimed back by completing the application here, attaching your receipts and sending it off to Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co. Ltd.
Before submitting a claim it is imperative that a report is made to the Overseas Travel Insurance claims Service Section 2 of Tokio Marine and Nichido Fire Insurance:
